Ayurvedic diet and detoxification

Welcome to The Balanced Yoga’s guide to Ayurvedic spring cleanses.

The Ayurvedic tradition, one of the oldest holistic systems still practiced, encourages us to cleanse our bodies seasonally in order to stay balanced and healthy.

We are approaching the end of Winter here in UK and it is time to prepare for a Spring Clean.

An Ayurvedic spring cleanse can be a great way to reset your body and mind as the season shifts, and bring your body back into balance.

The starting point is to support your body’s natural detoxification processes and cleanse out any accumulated toxins.

Here, we’ll explore the benefits of an Ayurvedic spring cleanse, what you can expect, and how to get started.

Benefits of an Ayurvedic Spring Cleanse An Ayurvedic spring cleanse has a variety of potential benefits. Some of the most common and well-known benefits include:

• Supports the elimination of toxins from the body

• Increases energy and vitality

• Supports healthy weight management

• Relaxes the nervous system and calms the mind

• Helps reestablish one's natural state of balance

• Promotes optimal health and wellbeing

What to Expect for Your Spring Cleanse

An Ayurvedic cleanse when done at home, is typically seven days in length, but it’s a good idea to plan on dedicating two weeks for the process.

This allows for proper preparation before the cleanse and an easier transition back into your normal routine afterward.

A traditional Ayurvedic cleanse involves four distinct phases, each critically important to your success.

1. Preparation: 3 days prior to the cleanse (longer, if possible) For a few days leading up to your cleanse, focus on cleaning up your diet and habits to prepare the body for an effective cleanse. You will want to eliminate (or at least dramatically reduce) your use of coffee, caffeine, tobacco products, alcohol, and processed foods. Incorporate more whole and natural foods into your diet, and increase your intake of fresh fruits and vegetables. This will make the detox process much easier and more effective.

2. Eliminate: During the cleanse During the cleanse, it’s important to eliminate any foods that are difficult to digest, as well as any foods that may be allergenic. This usually includes gluten, dairy, eggs, and refined sugar. You may also want to limit your consumption of legumes, nuts, and grains.

3. Rejuvenate: During the cleanse In addition to eliminating certain foods, it’s important to focus on rejuvenating your body during the cleanse. This can be done through yoga, meditation, and other calming activities. You’ll also want to make sure that you’re drinking plenty of fluids, such as herbal teas, warm water with lemon, and other detoxifying drinks.

4. Reintroduce: After the cleanse After the cleanse is complete, you’ll want to slowly start reintroducing certain foods back into your diet. Start with simple and easy-to-digest foods, such as steamed vegetables, and gradually add in more complex foods as your body adjusts.

By following the proper steps, an Ayurvedic spring cleanse can be a great way to reset your body and mind and bring your body back into balance.
